The Ballarat Historical Society meets at The Gold Museum, Ballarat District’s Regional Museum housing many collections including mining objects, photos, gold coins, art, postcards, and memorabilia.
The Society hosts the free, digitized records of the Ballarat Benevolent Society, Register of Inmates, 1860-1912 and Register of Inmates – Lying-In Wards, 1892-1916. “This transcription of the inmate registers of the Ballarat Benevolent Society is an ongoing project by Brett Weinberg. …The transcripts have been re-sorted in alphabetic-surname order.”
They also have an online catalogue of historical photos taken in the Ballarat District.
