Canada Immigration Records online are primarily taken from passenger lists, the official record of immigration from 1865 to 1935. We’ll include Candian Border Crossings and other possible records sets in this listing. A few of the collections below include records prior to 1865 and a few include records after 1935, but the majority of the records are from 1865-1935.

Before 1865

Immigration records to Canada are scanty prior to 1865. Library and Archives Canada has some potential resources for both the French (1608-1760) and the British (1760-1865).

1865-1935

According the Library and Archives Canada, Passenger lists were the official record of immigration from 1865 to 1935. Below are some possible collections for Canadian Immigration records online.

After 1935

Canadian Immigration records by land and sea from January 1, 1936 and on are held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and need to be requested in writing by a Canadian citizen, an individual living in Canada, or a researcher hired for this request, accompanied by a payment of $5 by check or money order. The request needs to be accompanied by proof the person being researched has been deceased fro 20 years, regardless of their date of birth.
