The Dictionary of Canadian biography/Dictionnaire biographique du Canada is a free database of Canadian biographies provided by Library and Archives Canada which is useful for family history and genealogy.

“There are now almost 8,500 biographies on this website, comprising the complete contents of volumes I to XV, which describe the lives of those whose deaths or whose last-known activities occurred in the years 1000 to 1930.”

It includes the 100 most frequently read biographies, new biographies which are added each week, writings on the War of 1812, Canada’s Wartime Prime Ministers, writings on World War I, and writings on the Acadians of the 19th and 20th centuries.
