Evansville Electronic Books – Evansville Electronic Books is a collection of historical books and pamphlets about Evansville people and places.  The original images are from the Indiana Collection.  

 

 

History

Karl K. Knecht Collection – The Karl Kae Knecht Collection was funded with a grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library.  EVPL collaborated with the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science and the University of Evansville to digitize Knecht’s original editorial cartoon artwork.  Knecht was the editorial cartoonist for the Evansville Courier for 54 years and his work covered many historically significant events.  

 

 

Browning Genealogy Database – The Local History Database contains articles from 1850 – 2019 from the following sources:

  • Browning People Study
  • People of Evansville in World War II
  • Some indexed magazine titles available in the Indiana Room

Added to the Press clippings is the lifetime work of Charles Browning. His two monumental biographical works, People of Evansville in World War II, about 40,000 cards, and his People Study, about 537,000 cards, are now online for the first time.

EVPL Centennial Collection – The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library first opened on January 1, 1913.  To celebrate 100 years of service to the community, the EVPL Centennial Digital collection includes photographs, annual reports and other items of note which demonstrate the history of the library and all of the services it has offered over the past 100 years.

Photos & Postcards

Evansville Images – Evansville Images is a collection of postcards; magazine and book illustrations; and photographs of buildings, boats and people in and around Evansville, Indiana.  The original images are from the Indiana Collection, which is located at Central Library in downtown Evansville.  The oldest images date back to the 1800s.  The library will be adding more recent images as it aquires them. We hope that local historians, biographers, and genealogists will find these images interesting and useful.  If you have additional information about any of these images, please contact us via Ask EVPL.

 

Evansville Courier and Press Photo Archive – The Courier and Press Photo Archive was funded by a 2015 grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library. The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library collaborated with the Evansville Courier and Press to bring the public access to thousands of photographs from the history of Evansville and the Tri-State area.

 

Evansville Postcards – Evansville Postcards is a collection of postcard images depicting structures, people and attractions in and around Evansville.  Two Evansville families, James & Rosemary Geiss and Thomas & Gina Topper, generously loaned their postcards to EVPL for inclusion in this collection.

 

 

Yearbooks

Evansville Yearbooks – Evansville Yearbooks is a collection of high school yearbooks from five public high schools in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.  The original yearbooks are located at the school corporation’s downtown headquarters or at the individual schools: Bosse High School, Central High School, Harrison High School, North High School or Reitz High School.  Some original copies are located in the Indiana Collection at Central Library in downtown Evansville. The EVPL gratefully acknowledges the EVSC’s permission to digitize these yearbooks for use by local historians, biographers and genealogists.

Military Records and what you can learn from them

 

USS LST 325 Memorial Museum Collection – The USS LST 325 Memorial Museum Collection was funded by a 2016 grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library. The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library collaborated with the USS LST Ship Memorial Museum and the University of Southern Indiana Archives and Special Collections to bring the public access to the diaries, photographs, blueprints, deck logs, and newspapers collected by the USS LST 325 Memorial Museum.

 

Evansville in WWII – The Evansville in WWII Digital Collection was funded by a grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library.  In 2012, we digitized and created keyword searchable local industry newsletters.  EVPL collaborated with the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science and the University of Southern Indiana to bring the public thousands of Evansville Shipyard photographs and war bond posters.
