#Genchat is a genealogy chat session on Twitter held every other Friday at 8 pm MST. #Genchat was started by Jen Baldwin, @ancestryjourney, Data Acquisition Manager for the US at FindMyPast.com.

Jen Baldwin started #Genchat to “Create an environment on Twitter where folks could gather and discuss one specific topic on blogging; at the same time and place each week.”

“On alternating Friday evenings, a group of genealogists from around the globe gather together and discuss a pre-chosen topic that has something to do with genealogy. These folks have varying backgrounds, skill levels and research focuses that make the conversation interesting, entertaining and incredibly educational. What you will not find is a separation of “hobbyist” and “professional.” We are all just genealogists, together.”

Kale Liam Hobbes, @leprchaunrabbit, coordinator and pre-chat host, aka the #genchat bartender, and genealogist and blogger at Rock of Ages: Grave Concerns and Your Roots Are Showing Dearie!, will send pre-event reminders/invitations to join in for #genchat if you tweet him at @leprchaunrabbit and ask to be added to the “Forget-Me-Not-Lists” (reminders are sent 12 hours, 2 hours, and 1 hour before #genchat).

Check out their “How it Works” page for helpful hints on joining the discussion.
