Google books is a great research tool for genealogical research. They have millions of books including:
-
books that are out of copyright
-
book scanned in libraries but still protected by copyright
-
books publishers have sent to Google books
In Google books you can search by a surname, given name, location, etc. and possibly find family histories, genealogies, city directories, local histories, government records, etc. You can then download entire books (if they’re out of copyright) and keep them with your own records. Google books also has digitized issues of Ancestry Magazine which is no longer being published. For books that are in copyright and unavailable for download, you can select “Find in a library” and look for the nearest library where you can locate this book.
