The Minnesota Death Search 1997 to present is a free, searchable death index at the Minnesota Department of Health.

“This is the lookup index of deaths in Minnesota from 1997 through last month. This index is updated on the first day of each month. Not all deaths are presented for registration immediately following the event. Some records may not appear in the index until weeks or even months following the death.”

You’ll need a date of birth or Social Security Number or the record won’t be found.

There is some overlap in the deaths recorded in this database and the Minnesota Historical Society online Death Certificates Index.
