The Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales Du Québec has free, online Montréal City Directories for the years ranging from 1842 to 1978 and another series ranging from 1974 to 2010.

The city directories vary by year in the types of information they contain but often include:

  • histories of Montreal

  • list of streets

  • alphabetical list of residents

  • names, employment, marital status, spouse’s name

  • business advertisements

  • reverse lookup potential by street addresses

  1. Would you know when Civic address were first introduced specifically to St-Laurent (under Paroisse St-Laurent Ward)
On 1861 census there are no civic addresses

    Many thanks,

    1. Kelly,

I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to your question but here is a link to the contact page for BAnQ where someone should be able to answer your question.

      Best with your research!
