The New Jersey 1885 Census is a free, online index provided by the New Jersey State Archives. “The 1885 Census was the fourth decennial census enumerated by the State of New Jersey and is the earliest to have survived in full. Through volunteer efforts, two portions of the enumeration have been indexed.”

“All database entries include the first and last name of every person listed on the census returns. The entries for Atlantic City include additional demographic data: age range, sex and race.”
