The Portsmouth Historical Society preserves the history of Portsmouth, New Hampshire through the arts, a museum, acquisitions, and programs.

 

The Society administers two facilities in the west end of the heart of downtown, including:
*Discover Portsmouth (Open April 1 through December 23 daily from 9:30am-5pm)—a large historic structure featuring exhibition galleries, a museum shop, a welcome center, and

 

*The Historic 1758 John Paul Jones House and Garden, a National Historic Landmark (open Memorial Day through Columbus Day) that was saved from demolition in 1917, and houses exhibitions of the Society’s permanent collections including Portsmouth memorabilia, furniture, textiles, and other material culture.

 

The Portsmouth Historical Society Discover Portsmouth building is available for event rentals.
