Prince Edward Islands, Canada has a Public Archives and Records Office which hosts free, online vital records for the province. Prior to 1906 there was no civil register on Prince Edward Island so records are culled primarily from church records and many of those were lost.

The Public Archives and Records Office has a free, searchable database (PARO) and here are some of the vital records included in their collection:

  • Deaths prior to 1906
  • Death records 1906-1960 (records are added annually per law)
  • Marriage register books 1832-1923
  • Marriage licenses 1787-1933
  • Marriage bonds 1849-1902
  • Marriage license cash books 1879-1970
  • Cemetery transcripts
  • Newspaper announcements

By selecting “Advanced Search” there are options for searching these specific data sets:

Information for when you can’t find what you need in the Prince Edward Island Vital Records database:

“For births, marriages and deaths still under restrictions, to seek cause of death information, or to request official copies of certificates and licenses, clients must apply through the Office of Vital Statistics, 126 Douses Road, PO Box 3000, Montague PE, C0A 1R0 (902-838-0880 or toll free 1-877-320-1253).”
