The Department of Justice of Tasmania hosts the Tasmanian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages for online Tasmania vital records (BMD) (BDM).

They recommend you work directly with their site as no company is endorsed by the BDM. How to apply for a certificate.

The Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office has a free, searchable database for vital records from 1803 to 1899.

What the Registry does and does not include:

“Prior to 1839 there was no official registration of births, deaths and marriages.  Between 1803 and 1839, the only records are Church Registers, many of which are kept at the Registry Office.” They also offer a CD of indexed BDM records for purchase.
