The Ontario Name Index (TONI) is a free genealogy research tool provided by the Ontario Genealogical Society. It allows researchers to enter a name and/or location and will return record information with the year and location that name was found. There’s an information page that directs the user to resources and the locations and availability of those resources. Often the resources will be microfilm numbers and which institutions have copies of these films.

There are 3,125,927 records in the database. “The Ontario Name Index (TONI) shows where information about a particular name can be found. Note that this is an index- it does NOT contain the information, just tells you where to find the information.”

This is just one resource available at the Ontario Genealogical Society website.
