African American & Slavery

Land of (Unequal) Opportunity: Documenting the Civil Rights Struggle in Arkansas – an attempt to compile in one on-line resource a variety of records and photographs that document the history of civil rights in the state.

BAD Times Collection – According to the Blacks In Prospective orientation handbook from 1975, since its founding, “Black Americans for Democracy (B.A.D.) has continued to serve as a sounding board for the many different problems that plague Black students on campus,” seeking to make all aspects of the University relevant to the lives of black students through the activities and publications it sponsored.  BAD changed its name in 1979 to Students Taking A New Dimension, or STAND, while retaining many of the services and programs it offered African American students at the University, including a week devoted to black awareness.

 

 

Folklife

Ozark Folksong Collection – traditional music and associated materials from Arkansas and the Ozarks .The online collection contains approximately 4000 transcriptions and over 4500 audio recordings.

 

 

Genealogies

Colonial Arkansas Post Ancestry – In particular, this digitized collection focuses on the four earliest known censuses and inventories of Arkansas Post (1723, 1726, 1743, 1749) and provides evidence of the ancestors whose names are found on these historic rosters of the Lower Mississippi Valley.

Selections from Special Collections and Archives – This collection contains selected materials from Special Collections that have previously been requested for digitization for researchers, class sessions, exhibits, and preservation, and are not contained in other digital collections. The items in this collection are free of use restrictions.

 

 

Manuscript Collections

Mimeograph Series, Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station – The Mimeograph Series (1949-1984) gave Arkansas farmers information about choosing and planting varieties of cotton, rice, corn, sorghum, and other crops, such as cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, and broccoli. The

 

 

Newspapers

The Arkansas Traveler Newspapers – The University Weekly made its debut on October 10, 1906. What originally was a five-column newspaper, has continued to report on campus news and events for nearly 115 years. The frequency of The University Weekly and then The Arkansas Traveler have varied over the years, ranging from daily, weekly, to monthly, including several gaps in publication.

This digital collection contains issues of The Arkansas Traveler from its first forty years, beginning with the very first issue in 1907. The issues included in this first phase of the project represents just 20% of the total publication history.

Shared History: Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas – a sampling of images of Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas from the Libraries’ Special Collections. Photographs in this first collection include images of the Washington-Willow Historic District, the Fayetteville square, Dickson Street, the train station, and University of Arkansas buildings such as Old Main or Razorback Stadium.

Yearbooks

University of Arkansas Yearbooks, The Cardinal and The Razorback, The University of Arkansas Yearbooks’ digital collection at completion will include all yearbooks from 1897 until the present time except for the 1899 volume. The collection will be updated annually as more issues are published after the 2018 issue. From 1897 through 2018, the collection is composed of 121 volumes or roughly 45,000 single scans.

Richard L. Holt, Sr. Papers – his digital collection includes more than 300 letters written by a U.S. serviceman, Richard L. Holt Sr., to his wife and family during World War II. Holt wrote some of the letter before he deployed overseas, stationed in New York City and North Carolina and other places stateside.
