VAKKA – Finland Archival Database

“The Finnish Archival Database (VAKKA) is a joint database of collections maintained by the National Archives Service and the Provincial Archives in Finland. It is accessible to customers of the National Archives for locating documents and information.”

“The database does not contain information about all fonds held by the National Archive Service, because the transfer of older data is still incomplete. Access by Internet to some records is also restricted by deposition or donor contracts. Current legislation on the protection of personal data also restricts the availability of personal data over public data networks. For this reason the catalogue and description data of all personal and family archives less than 100 years old is withheld, along with certain other data, such as lists of letter writers. These data can, however, be accessed in the research rooms in the National Archives and the Provincial Archives.”
